This summer I decided to set myself a list of things I wanted to accomplish during the six week school holidays. No I don’t mean defrost the fridge or shop around for car insurance but a list of things I have been wanting to accomplish because other priorities have taken over.
On the list was to brush up on my photography skills. Driven mainly by starting a blog and the desire to reduce the amount of stock photography images I use, I came to the uncomfortable conclusion that my photography skills are in dire need of improvement. I tend to take the odd decent shot but these are rather few and far between. I am clueless about composition, framing an image, using light correctly or even picking a subject that might be remotely interest to others. So flicking through Pinterest in a quest to get tips on how to improve my photography I came across Project 365.
What is Project 365?
Basically you take a photograph a day for a whole year; its that simple. Not only is it a way of keeping a photographic journal of your life, capuring moments of your life like a journal but it can help improve your photography skills as it commits you to taking a photograph each day. You can start it whenever your wish and don’t have to wait until 1st January. You can share your images via groups. hashtags on Instagram, on a blog or just keep them to yourself. I’ve decided to post them here on this page, maybe if I get brave enough I will put them on Instagram but not just yet! Some people also print their photographs which is something else to consider but at the moment I will just stick to posting them on this page.
One of my worries for committing to Project 365 is where to find inspiration for taking an image. If you search for Project 365 on the internet there are plenty of photography ideas from other people taking part.
