10 Healthy Habits for Autumn

I’ll admit it Autumn isn’t up there as one of my favourite times of the year.  Summer can seem more of a relaxed affair and with more daylight and sunshine my mood is generally in a happy place.  Then its BAAM! Back in to the routine of school and once past Halloween it’s that build up to Christmas.  Saying that I do like those first initial chilly mornings, the beauty of Autumn and having the kids back at school has it’s advantages, so ok maybe it’s not so bad?  For me when the nights start to draw in, the central heating goes on and my wardrobe switches to boots and sweaters it can be an excuse to start hibernating a little, switch to a stodgy diet and perhaps ease off on the running front.

Developing healthy habits will help to see you through the chillier weather, help to maintain a positive attitude and, fingers crossed, stave off potential weight gain.

Here are my 10 Healthy Habits for Autumn

  • If you must comfort eat make it healthy
  • Commit to a weekly Workout Schedule and log your progress
  • Revamp your running or training gear if you exercise outdoors
  • Stay hydrated; the colder weather is no excuse not to drink plenty of water
  • No Hibernating!  Stay Sociable!
  • Make one day a week a Family Day
  • Declutter
  • Unplug/Go Offline; even if it’s an hour before bedtime
  • Eat seasonal produce
  • Get outdoors more and take time to enjoy the beauty of Autumn

Cardio and Full Body Workout

Cardio and Full Body Workout

I’ve recently changed the way I train.  In the week it’s mainly free weights and the odd 5km run and at the weekend I now lay off the weights, do some cardio and some form of HIIT.  I put this workout together a little while ago and tend to do this on a Saturday morning.  This takes about 30 mins.  So work hard, work up a sweat then the rest of the day is yours to do with what you want!

My June Monthly Goals

My June Monthly Goals

A little late but here are my June Goals!  Website problems; it’s still a learning curve for me.  I’ve kind of taken my foot off the gas in terms of this blog, maybe lost a little focus along the way but I still love my blog just feel that other things are taking priority.  Work, family; it’s easy to lose focus and get out of the habit of setting time aside to the things you love.

New monthly goals; Summer's here, get outdoors, socialise more but remember to include something that makes you happy Click To Tweet

Since making a conscious effort at the beginning of the year set myself monthly goals instead of a list of New Year Resolutions I find I’m actually getting more stuff done and also focusing on allowing a little more time for what I actually want to do.

  1. Put together a new 15 Minute Full Body Workout
  2. Make Nutella Cupcakes  – Cupcake Jemma is my latest YouTube crush!
  3. Paint the Garden Fence – oh the glamour!
  4. Entertain more; whether it’s a BBQ with mates or just drinks Summer is the perfect time
  5. Run more!  No excuses!  I need to running motivation
  6. Switch off from work a bit more; stop checking emails late at night!
  7. Go meat-free at least twice a week; going to try Basil Avocado Pasta from Nourishyourglow.com
  8. Get back into a regular blogging routine; read 10 Habits of Successful Blogging by Blog Beautifully
  9. Start planning California Road Trip 2019; if I don’t plan this trip it won’t happen.  I’ve set up a Pinterest Board to keep me motivated.
  10. Be kind to myself a bit more often; I think most of us fail to do this or don’t consider it a priority

So what are you wanting to achieve this month?  If you are in the habit of setting goals each month, remember to include something that you want to achieve as a personal goal.

My Spring 15 Minute Full Body Workout

My Spring 15 Minute Full Body Workout

I’ve lost a bit of motivation lately, hit a wall and not been as motivated to push myself.  I’m still enjoying my free weight sessions but want to get the heart pumping a little bit more.  So for the last month I have added a new full body workout to my fitness routine.

So firstly, I’ve been hitting the Cross-Trainer.  Ok so this is not part of the Full Body Workout I’m posting but for me 15 minutes interval training on the cross trainer is just the ticket to get the heart pumping.  Read my post 5 Cross Trainer Workouts To Try if you would like to have a go at HIIT style intervals on the Cross Trainer.

Then I’m then doing the following 15 Minute Full body Workout.  3 rounds of 5 different exercises.  All exercises in each round are performed back to back with a rest after each round; I generally rest for 30 to 60 seconds but it is entirely up to you.  The goal is to preform 3 rounds of this workout within 15 minutes.  Don’t worry if you struggle to do this but the fitter you get the easier it will become to complete all 3 rounds.  It’s quality over quantity!  Please make sure you warm up properly before the workout and try and find time for a 5 minute cool down and stretch after.

My Monthly Goals for March

Monthly Goals

March Goals

New month, new monthly goals for me (sorry bit late posting this).  Spring is finally here!  It’s lighter in the mornings, days are getting longer and it’s not so hard dragging myself out of bed to go for a run first thing.  Spring makes me want to get out more. get more active, get more stuff done!

So far I’ve not done too badly at achieving my monthly goals.  Some harder than others but I’ve enjoyed the challenge and the feeling of having achieved something at the end of each month.

  • March Fitness Challenge – 30 Day HIIT Challenge
  • Be disciplined about making sure I prioritise some time for myself
  • Tidy up the garden
  • Snack healthily – try these Eat Clean Snacks
  • Create a new 15 minute workout
  • Get outdoors with my children more
  • Put together a Spring Running Playlist
  • Go watch Beauty and the Beast (even if it’s on my own)
  • Fall back in love with Instagram
  • Get ahead with my blog posts and spend a day writing content

Like many people, I guess what I find hardest is finding time for myself and when I do making the most of that time; so that is why I have put this on my list for March.

What goals have you set your self this month?

Beginners Full Body Workout

Beginners Full Body Workout

I like to think I know my way around a gym, particularly when it comes to the free weights.  It has taken time though and as we are into a new year a lot of people have made the decision to get fit tone up and lose weight. Joining a gym is normally the first step to achieving these goals for most people. However, it can all seem a little bit daunting especially when you are a few weeks in and memories of your Gym Induction are now rather fuzzy!  That’s when the motivation starts to wane and the gym visits can be in danger of becoming a thing of the past.

My Beginners Full Body Workout if you are in need of some workout inspiration #fitness #motivation Click To Tweet

So I had a dig through my old workouts and happened upon my very first gym programme that got me properly back into exercise.  At the time I did  book some sessions with a Personal Trainer.  Not only did he help me with my technique but helped me gain the confidence to use the Gym Equipment and what to use in order to reach my own fitness goals.  OK Personal Trainers don’t come cheap but what I learnt was worth every penny!  So this is my very first programme, a full body workout that is not too complicated but still gives you a decent workout.  I occasionally use it now just add weights to some of the exercises and maybe add an extra set; it does the job!

So if you need some inspiration here’s my very first beginner’s full body workout:

5 Cross Trainer Workouts To Try

Cross Trainer Workouts

5 Cross Trainer Workouts to Try

Normally I’m not big on cardio at the gym, generally doing a HIIT or a 5km is enough for me.  However recently when the weather hasn’t been great or it’s been mega busy around the free weights area of the gym I have started to do the odd cardio workout and have enjoyed doing them as they are different to my normal free weight sessions.  Normally I do something HIIT Style on the treadmill but I’ve also started to use the Cross Trainer (or Elliptical as it’s also known as) a little more.  I find that having a specifc workout gives me something to focus on and helps me up my effort levels when it comes to the sprint or higher intensity elements.  So if you are stuck for inspiration here are 5 Cross Trainer Workouts that I have found on Pinterest that you can try next time you are at the Gym.

I hope that has given you some inspiration when looking for a workout to try on the Cross Trainer.  I will put together my own but in the meantime if you are looking for a HIIT style treadmill workout take a look at my Quick HIIT 20 Minute Treadmill Workout.

In my own experience it’s good to mix up your fitness routine such as trying different types of cardio, fitness classes or types of exercises.  It helps to keep you motivated to continue on your fitness journey and ultimately achieve your fitness goals.
